Welcome to the year Twenty Ten! It looks to be an exciting start to the year with the Olympic Games being held in our great country. In our Summer edition we mentioned that one of our residents grandson’s was selected to carry the Olympic Torch in memory of his grandfather Howard Ward, known to all who were in the first phase of our community.
Here is a photograph of Jeff Pattison lighting the torch.
It was a wonderful experience for the family to watch, knowing that Howard would be there in spirit with Jeff as he ran.
Another of our residents, Bill Morrow, from Georgian Trails, has a niece, 14 year old Arie Taylor who was also chosen to run with the torch in Delhi near Tillsonburg. She was elected from her school for her academics and sports contributions. Well done Arie!
If you intend to watch the games here are a few of the Ontario hopefuls to keep your eye on.
STEVE OMISCHL Freestyle Skiing, from North Bay has won 40 world medals but has never finished in the top 10 in his two Olympic events, so he will be out to prove something this year.
KRISTINA GROVES from Ottawa has the potential to win 5 medals in the Long Track Speed Events.
PATRICK CHAN Figure Skating from Ottawa is ranked 1st in the world going to Vancouver. For more info see the website of simon@stikkymedia.com
